Summer Construction has kicked off at all Elk Rapids Campuses

Elk Rapids High School Gym Addition: Contractors are continuing to make great progress at the High School Gym addition. Steel erectors are finishing up with structure for the indoor running track. Locker rooms are taking shape as masons are building up interior walls. Masons are also laying brick along exterior of building, giving a glimpse of finished product. Concrete slabs are being poured as areas open up.

In the coming weeks, wall panels will continue to be measured and framing installed along the exterior. Concrete contractors will be on site to grade and lay concrete as they work their way out of the building. As always, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical contractors will be roughing in underground, in wall, and above ceiling to stay ahead of all other trades.

The old main entrance is taking shape. Concrete floors have been poured and masons will soon be moving into that area to build walls. Steel is arriving on site so they can set as soon as walls are done.

See below for some progress photos.

Elk Rapids HS Phase 2: Demolition crews made quick work of the existing media center and art room. HVAC crews, plumbers, and electricians have removed old fixtures and equipment to prepare for new.

With old walls out of the way, contractors are taking the opportunity to lay out and ensure all work will be correct to limit any delays before they happen. See pictures below to see some of the progress contractors have made in this area.

Cherryland Middle School: Demo crews moved into classrooms soon after school got out to prep for structural tie in. Masons have continued along with exterior walls as the building footprint has taken shape. Steel crews have followed behind to build columns and roof structures. Plumbers and electricians have been onsite to run any necessary piping and conduit in walls among other things. Plumbers have also been working in the existing building to swap out equipment in the boiler room and demolish old piping above ceilings. They are also taking advantage of the system being drained to install valving to make future shutoffs for next phases easier.

In the coming weeks some miscellaneous concrete footings/foundations will be poured for steel canopy to set on. Exterior insulation and brick will begin while concrete slabs are prepped and poured in the building. The crews are looking forward to a busy summer ahead.

Lakeland and Millcreek Elementaries: Demo at Lakeland has moved quickly since kids got out of school. Millwork, flooring, and ceilings have been pulled out of the 6 classrooms. Bathrooms have had all fixtures, partitions, and flooring removed as well.

At this point electricians and plumbers have been starting to rough in and investigate existing portions above ceiling to plan for all their runs. Saw cutting is happening to accommodate new underground piping for relocated sinks.

Millcreek demo has not been as noticeable since it is all being done above ceilings as HVAC crews remove old fixtures to prep for new installations. Keep an eye out for exterior improvements as excavators are starting in this week to demo old drives and dig to prepare for new driveway, parking lot, and curbs.

It will be exciting to watch these projects come together quickly this summer.
